During the Rococo Revival period, figurines as well as various functional decorative objects became popular: flacons, bottles, desktop stands, and cigar stands. The functional nature of the object almost never disappears behind the figurative staffage. Boxes certainly offered the most variability: they could be concealed in the form of a beetle, under an exotic camel’s hump or a lady’s sizeable skirt, where items like chocolates could be conveniently stored under a fashionable hoopskirt…
